carving a canoe paddle

This short video shows the spruce wood from a felled tree (click here) and after the log was split and made into a plank (video click here). Using just an axe and a knife to roughly whittle out a canoe paddle – not only for simplicity but if you are in the wilderness and you lose your paddle it makes sense to be able to make a replacement.  From this stage it is fine carving to finishing – all the heavy work is now complete.
